"Benjamin Baran, a professor at 51ºÚÁÏ and commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve, said Afghan interpreters "were indispensable to our mission there and getting stuff done" when he was adviser to the Afghan National Police in 2013. It wasn't just about the linguistic knowledge, Baran said, but also the cultural knowledge and local connections the made the difference."
